About

newsvendorNewsvendor.com began life in October 1998 as a community weblog, it was the successor to Live News Ireland a one man daily digest of Irish news by email before RTÉ and The Irish Times had started daily email services. Community sites weren’t called blogs back then but its intent was identical. The software was designed by me (Brian Greene) and by the time I joined doop.ie (having jumped from baltimore.com) the software was maturing into a small scale commercial CMS. The software has powered some of Ireland’s larger news sites but with the advancement of open source CMS and very powerful blogging platforms the need for Newsvendor CMS had passed. There are still a few die hard customers who we are unable to convince that the software has had its hay day and from time to time updates still have to be tailored.

Newsvendor domain retired around 2008 and has remained mothballed until now. Since 2008 twitter.com/newsvendor has been fed by data from the dig~deeper project (the forerunner to qued.tv). The typical type of data this stored would be similar to this 1993 recording of Leo Enright on BBC Radio 1 News Beat.

Now that the dig~deeper script has matured into qued.tv and because much of the qued.tv wordpress plugin tests are ‘newsy’, Newsvendor has been dusted down, given a WP3.0 blog system and connected by plugin to qued.tv.

That’s the short history.
